in the Plattsmouth Main Street Historic District at 6th and Main Streets, the
Fitzgerald Building has been transformed into contemporary
hotel suites in downtown Plattsmouth, Nebraska.
Since the building's original construction
in approximately 1871, the Fitzgerald Building has been used for numerous other
purposes over the years.
In the late 1990's, the building was
extensively rehabilitated. The residential portion has set vacant over the past
couple of years, until just recently when Omaha real estate developers Brett
Clure, Andy Forney and Tom Monteith partnered to
transform the 21 former apartments into one-bedroom and two-bedroom hotel
suites. Much of the original architecture has been preserved and restored while
creating a new contemporary interior design and adding amenities such as
granite countertops and stainless steel appliances in the kitchen.
"This building has a lot of historical
features, it's in the middle of downtown and there's a lot of natural light
coming in from all of the tall windows in the units," Clure said. "We think
it's going to be something that will really be nice to have here in town."
Clure hopes the Fitzgerald Hotel will host
visitors attending Omaha-area annual events such as the NCAA College World
Series and Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholder meeting, and also increase
business for local Plattsmouth area retailers and attractions, such as The
Chocolate Moose Café, or The Fitz bar
and food experience located on the lower
level of the Fitzgerald Hotel.
